Autumn Light.
While I’ve been working on my latest solo album Listening over the past year, I have also been working on another The Light Meeting album. Having these two projects has been a really wonderful creative outlet for my musical ideas. My latest single for The Light Meeting is called Ripples ~ Autumn Light and it can be listened to by following one of the links below. I’ve also written more below about this piece.

The Ripples portion of this song came about when I was improvising while playing guitar during a Restorative class a couple of years ago. The soft harmonics that came from that then flowed into what became the chords I layered on top of the harmonics for this recorded version. These sounds reminded me of the beautiful ripple effects caused by raindrops falling softly onto puddles. They also reminded me of spending time with my wife Jourdan and how I’ve noticed these kinds of things more since being with her.
The two of us have been taking walks together in our neighborhood and it’s been a beautiful experience noticing the changes, especially in the trees, this autumn season. One of the things I love most about her is how she prioritizes the time to notice and connect with nature in these ways. This has also reminded me to take moments to slow down, which in turn has given me a lot of inspiration for songs. Some of the melodies in Autumn Light came from these moments on our walks. My aim was to tie together elements from these inspired moments of simple and connected beauty to form this piece of music. I’m really thrilled on the end result.

Bamboo Forest.

The Light Meeting is a sound concept that I’ve been inspired to write for since we started. I have a lot of musical ideas, but it takes a lot to write and record these ideas. I started releasing some of my instrumental songs under my solo name, but now I’m going to continue to release instrumental music under The Light Meeting. Bamboo Forest is the first “new” song in this direction. Its layered acoustic guitar, as well as rhythmic and melodic contours remind me of walking through a bamboo forest. My wife and I had a wonderful honeymoon in Maui in 2021, and the bamboo alley portion of the Garden of Eden really was the inspiration for this song. I took a little video of the bamboo trunks knocking together in the wind, and that’s what you hear in the beginning and ending of the piece. Her and I had experienced some heavy losses together, and the peacefulness of the sight and sounds of bamboo was a healing experience. I hope you enjoy this musical landscape as much as I enjoyed crafting it. Links are below to listen!

The Light Meeting’s album, Music in the Calm Before, is now available on all the online digital places!
I’ve been working on this music with Andrew Hamby for the last couple years and it’s really a dream come true to see this music come alive with him. We started recording our creations at home and saw them as demos, but when we released them to the world, the stories we got back from people who were listening and enjoying and ultimately, looking for a place to purchase, we decided to officially release what we had recorded up to this point.

the LIving Room Sessions
Hey there!
I hope your 2019 is off to a great start. Ours has been.
We’ve got some exciting things, musically, that we’re looking forward to sharing with you this year. One of which is the Living Room Sessions. For those of you that found us from our instrumental music, you may be surprised that we have a singer/songwriter, vocals/acoustic guitar/cello-based sound as well. Andrew and I met when I was recording my last album, In Color (https://itunes.apple.com/us/album/in-color/1246464427). We became fast friends and also recognized there was something special happening between us musically. Since then, we’ve played a lot of shows together and Andrew’s cello playing is an important part of these new songs of mine. In the spirit of inspiration, I started a project that I mentioned above, called the Living Room Sessions. This is essentially me playing a different song each week in my living room with my acoustic guitar to show you the new songs. I’ll be posting these songs (one each week), and can be checked out on our YouTube channel (https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCwDwakHQnY1V97x-rsGKMaw). The first 3 songs have been posted: You Are Loved, Stardust, and Alright to Fall. If you follow our Instagram and Facebook pages (and also mine), you can stay updated on this project. I also post a video each week talking a bit about the song on there. If you listen, please let me know what you think! Andrew and I will be recording these songs together in June of this year. I can’t wait!
FYI, this album will be different from the instrumental The Light Meeting album, which we will still record at some point. The scope is a bit bigger than the singer/songwriter album we’ll be recording this summer, and to do it right, we feel we need to crowd fund it accordingly.

Matt in OM Yoga Magazine!
Last year, The Light Meeting did a photo shoot with local friend and photographer Carol Hagen. One of these photos even made it into Om Yoga Magazine! Many thanks to OM Yoga Magazine for putting this in their October issue! We’re pretty psyched about this. Matt has a love for both yoga and music and is a yoga teacher in Flagstaff, AZ, USA. He brings his guitar and sings a couple songs during his classes that he teaches. And… he’s been testing out The Light Meeting’s music on his playlists for these classes and it’s been going over very well. His favorite is when people say: “I love that music that you played on the playlist today, who is it?”. Well, I’m glad you asked…!

The Light Meeting is a guitar and cello duo based in northern Arizona. They have two identities: one is an acoustic, singer/songwriter + cello sound, and another is an electric guitar and cello sound that is geared specifically for relaxing or a yoga/meditation playlist.
